Fox News Obituary Trashes Kurt Vonnegut Video

More Fox News Bias at: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A3BD2524FE99BD4D

The Fox News obituary of Kurt Vonnegut airing the day after his death seemed particularly harsh to me, but I may be especially sensitive because I'm a big Vonnegut fan. I've uploaded some clips from the Fox News obituary for you to see and decide for yourself.

FYI, I tracked down the origin of the ancient Greek admonition "Not to speak evil of the dead" to Diogenes Laertius quoting Chilon (pictured at the beginning of this video) quoting Aesop at: http://www.classicpersuasion.org/pw/diogenes/dlchilon.htm

The photo of Chilon itself comes from Nicolas at http://www.greecetaxi.gr and can be found at http://www.greecetaxi.gr/Philosophers/Gilon01.jpg

A longer version of the Fox News segment (without the introduction from Brut Hume) is currently available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDrqGoL4KBo

Comments on "Fox News Obituary Trashes Kurt Vonnegut"

This made me really ...
This made me really sad. I love his books. He has always been a favorite of mine. I do feel the commentary is insensitive and disrespectful, especially so close to Kurt Vonnegut's passing. I'll always treasure Kurt's Vonnegut's legacy. His ironic sense of humor, his compassion, and yes, his "quirkiness" make him an enduring hero to me, and surely? to his family and friends. He remains alive in the hearts of all who cherish him; he inspires through his creative expression of humanity.

What's the rest? of ...
What's the rest? of what Fox News said?

P.S., Liberal ...
P.S., Liberal Viewer, the mere fact that the United States Navy would show an anti-war film to a bunch of sailors would hopefully give you pause to reconsider some of your "military-industrial complex" views concerning matters of indoctrination. They were apparently more open-minded than many of the radicals of that era whom no doubt you would have been? in sympathy with had you been around then.

LV, please forgive ...
LV, please forgive me for being in your corner on this one. I would guess that about the only other thing we would agree on is that your kid (presumably) who introduces? your videos sounds cute! Donald Schneider

I, of course, ...
I, of course, shortly sought out? the book and then read many more by this great author. As a born romantic, one would think I would detest his iconoclastic works. On the contrary, I couldn't get enough of them! He had a gift for de-romanticizing almost anything, including, of course, war. He made many salient points in a succinct manner. (Continued)

OMG! I actually ...
OMG! I actually agree with Liberal Viewer! It's going to snow in July in Florida! I am a huge fan of Vonnegut. I hold *Slaughterhouse-Five* to be a classic that greatly influenced my thinking. In fact, my philosophical proof of a creator is directly derived from the? story's paradigm of time, eternalism, and this was my introduction to it. I saw the movie while aboard a USN ship in 1974 and fell in love with it. (Continued)

I couldn't agree ...
I couldn't agree with you more. Kurt Vonnegut is an understated absolute cultural icon for America, or at least from my point of view he is. I'm Irish and unfortunately in Ireland (actually........not just Ireland) people? perceive America and its citizens in the light that FOX news casts. I don't and it's thanks to the likes of Vonnegut for setting me straight.

So long as they ...
So long as they didn't baptize him after his death. That is the most disrespectful action I can think of. But yes, this should be considered? absurdly incisive in our culture.

Well I didn't start ...
Well I didn't start reading Vonnegut until the 21st century. I quickly became a huge fan and started buying his novels and? short story collections. Being a bit of a bookworm, I'm sometimes asked for book recommendations; my first recommendation is always Vonnegut. I fully intend on turning my Vonnegut collection over to my children some day; so in my sheltered Ohio existence, Kurt Vonnegut has had an exponentially larger influence in this still young century than Fox News.

Standard for? FOX
Standard for? FOX

Oh boo. This? is ...
Oh boo. This? is pretty standard practice.

Fox news, lies and ...
Fox news, lies and deceit presented in/as news will always be more powerful than ideas presented in novels, however? wondrous literary marvels they may be.

Say no!? to Obama ...
Say no!? to Obama assasination.

Science fiction? ...
Science fiction? mumbo jumbo, ..........sounds like they? are discribing the dhiarretic nature of their own journalism......

SERIOUSLY! How the ...
SERIOUSLY! How the hell do they get away with? this s**t!

FUX news.. someone ...
FUX news.. someone sue? these jerkoffs for slander!

Um, does " ...
Um, does "Slaughterhouse Five" ring a bell with anyone? He was also a POW, but "leftist" veterans don't count, right? You are pathetic? organ of ignorance, FOX NEWS.

They did the same ...
They did the same thing for Christopher Hitchens...?

Fox news respectful ...
Fox news respectful? That just seems like a? punchline to a joke.

no, f**k you James ...
no, f**k you James Rosen, just... f**k you,? rest in piece Kurt

Maybe those ...
Maybe those pinheads should look back on that senile criminal whose term ended just slightly before? he was to be indicted and impeached. My favorite criminal, Ronald Reagan.

I am not a big fan ...
I am not a big fan of Vonnegut, but this is unspeakable. I cannot think of someone I hate so much that? I would write such an obituary. Wait, maybe Rupert Murdoch.

It's really ...
It's really disgusting that? fox chose to denigrate this great man in this way.

This is the same " ...
This is the same "news" station that claims Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" is the new American bible. As such, no one? should take FOX seriously.

Uh ... prove what? ...
Uh ... prove what? I hope you did understand that I was just joking, neing sarcastic, when I? said, and I repeat: Didn't you know? EVERY atheist, socialist, atheistic socialist, socialistic? atheist is unhappy ;-) You do know that the ;-) characters represent a "wink" face. Meaning, I was not serious. On the contrary, I was sarcastic.

Prove it??
Prove it??

I really loved ...
I really loved Cat's Cradle... after that I? was hooked on Vonnegut.

'If god were? alive ...
'If god were? alive today, he'd be an atheist' Kurt Vonnegut. Perhaps the greatest American author of the 20th century.

@USA4July1776 @ ...
@USA4July1776 @SharityWorld? I second that...kill yourself.
